Its purpose is not to reward visibility, sponsorship or popularity. It exists to protect a serious standard of recognition—grounded in craft, cultural contribution and commercial impact.

Without an independent decision-making body, an award risks becoming promotion. The Academy creates the distance required between recognition and commercial influence.

How the Standard Is Protected

Eligibility
Open to designers, houses and collections active in the Americas within the awards year.
Nomination Pathway
Candidates may be submitted by Academy members or through the public submission pathway, then reviewed for completeness and eligibility.
Judging Methodology
Eligible work is evaluated through weighted consideration of craft, cultural contribution and commercial impact.
Conflict of Interest
Members must disclose relevant relationships and recuse themselves from any category where impartiality may be compromised.
Collective Decision
Competitive honorees are determined through the Academy process and final closed review—not by sponsorship, public popularity or one individual.
Annual Accountability
Membership, policies and category information are reviewed for each awards cycle as the institution develops.
The Responsibility of Membership
This is not an honorary title.
It is a working role.
Academy members are expected to contribute time, knowledge and independent judgment during the awards cycle.
